Relaxed elegance is what how we would describe the Kelly Retourne. It’s a bag made famous by the late American actress turned Monegasque royalty, when she used the Sac à dépêches (what the Kelly was known as before) to hide her royal bump. But its history dates even further back to the turn of the 20th century since the Sac à dépêches is based on a larger bag called the Haut a courroies, a bag intended for transporting riding saddles.
The Sac à dépêches, a 1930s creation by Robert Dumas (son-in-law to Monsieur Hermes) was a travel bag that was both spacious and boxy and differed from bags of the era. Grace Kelly certainly was a woman of exquisite style and taste and knew a statement bag when she saw one. Her two favourites Kellys were made of croc skin. Till today, each individual bag is made by only one craftsman and takes about 18 hours to put together.
This Kelly Retourne 25 is in black Swift leather and in a pristine condition. It displays very slight signs of use on its exterior leather and the bottom corners and no press marks. The stickers are still intact on the palladium-plated hardware. It comes with its strap, clochette, lock, keys, felt cloth, 2 dust bags and rain protector.
