It takes a craftsman many years of training before he can work on an Hermes Kelly bag. Even when he does, it’s a lone job from start to finish. Then there is the well-known long wait list to procure a Kelly handbag. Like the Birkin, you can't just saunter into a boutique to pick one up. Such is the rarity and exclusivity of a Kelly.
There are two versions of the Kelly: the Retourne and Sellier. While both are elegant and ladylike and look seemingly identical, there is one big tell of their difference. The Retourne has a more relaxed, slouchier silhouette and visible piping due to its construction. The edges of the leather pieces are stitched together and then turned inside out, creating the more round corners, unlike the boxy and rigid Sellier.
Fashioned from Togo leather with palladium-plated hardware, this gently used Kelly Retourne 28 bears the enclosed ‘Q’ square date stamp that shows its 2013 make. There are slight press marks on the interior base of the bag, and minor scratches on the hardware. The metal hardware on the shoulder strap also shows some minor tarnish. Overall however, this bag is still in a good condition. Additional items that come with this Kelly include a strap, clochette, lock, keys and dust bag.
